Ellie Hope and Liquid Gold     Two of the "disco-era's" biggest hits came from a group that  never  appeared in America. The U.K. based  Liquid Gold  consisted of Wally Rothe (drums), Ray Knott (bass), Syd Twynham (lead guitar) and Ellie Hope (vocals).          Ray met Ellie in 1976 when both auditioned as replacements for  Babe Ruth.  Babe Ruth had four albums between 1972-1975. Ray and Ellie contributed to  Babe Ruth's  last album  "Kid Stuff,"  before it disbanded.      Ray and Ellie then recruited Syd and Wally to form the  Dream Coupe.  The four played local bars and pubs doing mainly cover tunes while continuing to write there own material and seeking out a recording contract. Producer Adrian Baker happened to catch the group and was so intrigued by Ellie's vocals that he signed the group to Creole records and a one year contract.    ...

It is featured on her album Smooth Talk. It reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold by the RIAA. Evelyn King is an American R&B, disco and post-disco singer born in the Bronx, New York, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her uncle Avon Long had played the part of Sportin' Life in the first Broadway revival of Porgy and Bess and worked with Lena Horne at the Cotton Club. Her father sang back-up for groups at Harlem's Apollo Theater. She was discovered as a young woman while working with her mother at Philadelphia International Records as an office cleaner. A performer since childhood, R&B artist  Alicia Myers  won a talent contest in her native Detroit at the age of 10, when she and her brother  Jackie  dueted on a cover of  Ashford & Simpson 's "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," a Motown classic popularized by  Marvin Gaye  and  Tammi Terrell . The Myers siblings performed in bands together, but  Jackie  eventually joined  Chairmen of the Board , while  Alicia  became an integral member, a songwriter, and occasional front person, in  Al Hudson & the Partners . She made an instant impact in the group as the co-writer and co-lead vocalist of the 1979 single "You Can Do It." After a group name change to  One Way , she continued to contribute until 1981, when she made her solo debut with MCA -- the same label to which  One Way  was signed.
